I like this skirt from Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2014 collection.

It’s the pocket I like the most. Now, I cannot afford this skirt but I really like it.

I do have this Burda pattern.

The skirt version A is similar in shape to the Louis Vuitton skirt and it can be made in wool. It just needs that pocket.

What would a patch pocket and pocket flap, trimmed in contrasting fabric look like? What if the yoke seam and the center seam had that same contrasting color piping added?

What would a contrasting yoke and a wide matching insert down the center seam and down the pocket look like?

What if I didn’t play up the yoke seam with a contrast but kept the center seam contrast and the pocket with the trim?

I sometimes forget that a pattern doesn’t have to have the last word. It’s true that a pattern can be a jumping off point sometimes. And it’s true that designers borrow from each other and other sources all the time. So this fall I’m going to borrow from Louis V and Burda and make the skirt I want. I love it when a plan comes together.

    • Hello Grace,

I don’t know how I feel about the quilting on the skirt. There is a lot going on there, a contrasting zipper, the pocket, and the quilting. I was thinking of just adding the pocket to my skirt and maybe a contrasting inset down center front. Now you have me thinking though…
